Materials
We can custom-make to any specifications. But our normal design uses a full four or five yards (according to customer measurements) of tartan material, pleated to line, with two high quality buckles and real leather straps, and a proper traditional kilting selvedge.
About Casual Kilts
Using less material does mean less kilt 'swing' when dancing, but the advantage of less weight makes it more suitable for outdoor pursuits. The waistline of the Hiker is a couple of inches lower than a traditional kilt, sitting at the same level as trousers. We would not recommend the Hiker for formal events, but in most situations, only the most expert eye will be able to tell the difference.
